Despite
the Irish surname Adrian Finighan is, in fact, Welsh. Born
in Newport, Monmouthshire in 1964 he trained as a journalist
in industrial South Wales in the early 1980's.
In 1988 after spending a year backpacking his way around the
world he joined the BBC as a radio producer and presenter, hosting
a regional phone in programme. He graduated to national radio
newsreading in 1991 and moved to television and the BBC's Business
Unit in 1994 to front the World Business Report on BBC World.
After a short spell as North America Business Correspondent he
became one of BBC World's regular news anchors in 1998 - after
doing the job on an occasional basis for the previous three years.
When he's not reading the news on BBC World or it's sister station
BBC News 24 (available only in the UK) Adrian puts his voice
to good use. He's provides the commentary for corporate documentaries,
is the announcer for several BBC TV programmes, including Lily
Savage's "Blankety Blank"
and Ronan Keating's "Get Your Act Together", and can
still occasionally be heard reading national radio news in the
UK on BBC Radio 2 (they sometimes let him DJ too!). He is also
the "voice of BBC World", the person introducing the
news and programmes behind the channel's indents. "It's
weird - I often introduce myself"!
Adrian lives in Hertfordshire with his wife - a BBC Children's
TV Producer - their two young daughters and a mad cat called
Allie (after Alan Shearer).
