Alastair
is one of the longest-serving anchors in international 24
hour TV news.
He
was a member of the original team of BBC News 24 and BBC
World and before that he was the launch presenter of Sky
News where he fronted the breakfast programme.
In
2002, he returned to the BBC from a three year posting in
Berlin where he was senior anchor of Germany's World TV service.
With
over 25 years broadcast news experience, Alastair has had
a classical journalist career.
Among
the thousands of world stories he's covered are the Afghanistan,

Nelson Mandela's release from prison and the handover of
Hong Kong to China.
His
early TV reporting was spent with BBC Midlands, Grampian
in Scotland and Anglia TV. Before that, he was with BBC local
radio in Derby, Leicester and WM.
Alastair
is a prolific globetrotter. His interest in world affairs,
culture and people takes him on regular trips abroad.

the past two years alone he's been to China, Hong Kong, Thailand,
Indonesia, Singapore, South Africa, The United Arab Emirates,
Seattle, Chicago, Washington, New York, Los Angeles, France
and Italy.
Alastair
can be seen in the UK on News 24 through the night - which
is also shown on BBC 1 and BBC World.
