Anita
McNaught has worked in news and current affairs for fifteen
years.
She
joined the BBC in 1997, after twelve years in print and
television in New Zealand. In addition to her work as one
of the team of BBC World presenters, she is a reporter
on the BBC's flagship international current affairs programme
'Correspondent', writes occasionally for The Times on environmental
issues, and broadcasts regularly on events in the UK for
Radio New Zealand.
At BBC
World, she has handled many unscheduled breaking news events,
as well as regular broadcasts. She anchored rolling coverage
of the entry of UN forces into Kosovo and Kofi Anan's peace
mission to Baghdad which averted a second Gulf War.
She
covered the death of Princess Diana for NZ television.
She
also worked as a presenter/interviewer on the BBC2 arts and
culture programme 'Open Minds' made in association with the
Open University, and as a presenter/reporter on the Channel
4 investigative series 'Clear My Name', looking into miscarriages
of justice with the 'Trial and Error' team.
Born
and educated in the UK, she left for New Zealand in 1985.
Working initially as a network news reporter at Television
NZ, at the age of 23 she was reporting and presenting the
specialist business programme 'Business World'. Returning
always to news and current affairs between presenting jobs,
she has researched and reported on numerous current affairs
and documentary programmes. In 1991she launched a nightly
news analysis programme 'Tonight with Anita McNaught'.
In 1994,
she joined the team of current affairs reporters on the high-profile
NZ investigative programme '20/20', travelling and reporting
from around the Asia-Pacific region. She focussed particularly
on medical/ethical investigations.
She
was a founding board member of WIFT - Women in Film and Television
- in New Zealand. She maintains strong professional and personal
links with New Zealand.
