La Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), la Radiotelevisión Austriaca, fue creada como una empresa pública en 1945 y fue reformada en 1967 para dotarla de una mayor independencia política y económica. En 1974 se aprobó una ley constitucional dotando a la ORF de una completa autonomía financiera y garantizando su independencia frente al gobierno. Leyes adicionales aprobadas ese mismo año imponen a la ORF objetividad informativa, variedad de opiniones y una programación equilibrada. La ORF cuenta con dos cadenas generalistas de televisión, cuatro cadenas de radio, Radio Austria Internacional (Radio Österreich International), la orquesta Radio Sinfónica Viena (Radio Symphonieorchester Wien) y participa desde el año 1984, junto a la ARD, ZDF y SRG, en el canal internacional de lengua alemana 3sat. Al frente de la entidad está un director general y cuenta con 3 responsables de programación, 1 para radio y 2 para televisión. La sede central de la ORF está en Viena y cuenta con estudios en las nueve provincias federales.

The Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF), the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, was formed as a public corporation in 1945 and reformed in 1967 for greater political and financial independence. In 1974 a constitutional law was passed giving ORF complete financial autonomy from the government and guaranteeing its freedom from attempts by the government or any state body to exert influence on programming. Additional laws passed in that year required ORF to present objective reporting, a variety of opinions, and balanced programming. The ORF broadcasts two general interest television channels, four radio networks, Radio Austria International (Radio Österreich International), the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (Radio Symphonieorchester Wien) and since 1984 participates, in partnership with ARD, ZDF and SRG, in the international German-speaking channel 3sat. The institution is headed by the director general. Its headquarters is in Vienna and it has studios in the nine federal provinces.
