CANAL+
España ("Canal Plus") is one of the three
privately owned television companies which received a TV
license in 1989. The name CANAL+ comes from one of
its main shareholders, CANAL+ (France), which is a subsidiary
of Vivendi-Universal. CANAL+ started its pay-tv operations
on September 14th, 1990.
CANAL+
España is a pay-tv channel like HBO. It´s the
only terrestrial pay-tv channel. It shows news, series, films,
magazines, documentaries, children´s programs and sports.
In 1997 it began broadcasting in digital two new satellite
channels: CANAL+ Rojo (CANAL+ Red) and CANAL+ Azul (CANAL+
Blue). Later, a widescreen channel, CANAL+ 16/9, was created.
But in November 2001 it was replaced by CANAL+...30 (which
shows CANAL+ programs 30 minutes later). On July 21st 2003,
CANAL+ Rojo and CANAL+ Azul were replaced by CANAL+2, CANAL+
Cine (3 movie channels) and CANAL+ Deporte (3 channels which
show movies, sports and events).
On
November 7th, 2005, at 20:44, Cuatro began its emissions
using Canal+'s analogue license. Since then, Canal+ is only
available on Digital+. |
